A half-acre area that is presently lawn (located off to the side of the Loop Road near the Sancturary) will receive thousands of flowering perennials, creating a beautiful butterfly and pollinator garden to be used and enjoyed by visitors to Look Park.
This project will be funded and installed by supporters of Look Park. Like all Local Harmony garden projects, volunteers will be a key component to the installation of this project. After fundraising is completed, planting days will be organized and workshops will be provided for volunteers that cover the topic of how to design, create and care for butterfly gardens and meadows. Each workshop will also be a work party – after the initial educational session we will transition into planting the many thousands of meadow plugs that comprise this garden.
The design for this meadow includes a range of flowering meadow perennials that grow in height from 2-5 feet tall and are capable of easily adapting to the conditions of this site. Flowering times for each species vary so as to provide bright colors over the course of the entire growing season. Species have been chosen that are particularly durable, and a large majority are native species. Grasses will also be interspersed between the flowering perennials, adding texture and softening the overall look to create a meadow-like feel.
